Grupo Torrent receives the Spanish and Sustainable Plastics Industry Certification from ANAIP | Torrent Closures

ANAIP presented us with the Spanish and Sustainable Plastics Industry Certification in recognition of our commitment to sustainability and innovation within the sector.

On 27th November, the first edition of the “Transformers Event” took place, organised by ANAIP (Spanish Association of Plastics Industry Professionals). Under the slogan “Plastically Heroes”, the plastics industry used this platform to highlight its crucial role in many areas of society and showcase its progress towards sustainability.

Spanish and Sustainable Plastics Industry Certification

ANAIP awarded the Spanish and Sustainable Plastics Industry Certification to 23 leading companies in the sector, including Grupo Torrent. This accolade, introduced by ANAIP in June 2023, aims to recognise the efforts of companies like Grupo Torrent to minimise environmental impact while maximising socio-economic contributions.

These acknowledgements place Grupo Torrent among the most prominent European companies striving to improve the environmental impact of the plastics industry and care for our surroundings.

Sustainability, commitment to our environment, a circular economy, and environmental protection are values that Grupo Torrent has been fostering for years, dedicating significant time and resources. One of Grupo Torrent’s main goals is to be EcoResponsible in designing and manufacturing its products. For this reason, it implements a series of EcoResponsible initiatives, covering product design, logistics, sourcing and certification of raw materials, energy use, and employee wellbeing.

Plastics: part of the solution, not the problem

Luis Rodrigo, President of ANAIP, opened the event with a revealing statistic: “Plastics represent only 0.8% of the total waste generated in Spain, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).” This figure, prominently highlighted during the event, was used to illustrate the gap between public perception and the reality of the sector. Rodrigo called for an end to the demonisation of a material and industry that have proven essential for societal progress.

Recognition for sustainability: ECOALF receives the Transformers Award

During the gala, the sustainable fashion brand ECOALF was honoured with the inaugural Transformers Award for its commitment to the circular economy and its innovative contributions to the textile sector.

An essential and innovative sector

Throughout the event, various industry figures debunked myths and emphasised the benefits of plastics compared to materials mistakenly considered more sustainable. Plastics have demonstrated their importance in areas such as medicine, food, transport, and construction, enhancing quality of life and fostering technological development.

The evening concluded with a performance by Sheila Blanco, who reinterpreted Jorge Drexler’s classic Todo se transforma, providing an emotional end to a night dedicated to innovation, sustainability, and advocacy for the sector.

The first Transformers Event by ANAIP made it clear that plastics are not only part of the present but also of a more sustainable and efficient future. Grupo Torrent is proud to be part of a sector that tackles tomorrow’s challenges with innovative solutions and environmental responsibility.
