Torrent Group's Eco-Design Platform | Torrent Closures

Eco-Design, where design and innovation converge

Torrent Group, a leader in the closure and cap sector in our country, continues its investment dynamics and, above all, innovation, with sustainability and R&D&I as its standard. At Torrent Group, we have Torrent Innova, a company dedicated exclusively to the R&D&I activities of our company both nationally and internationally.

At Torrent Innova, we practice the development of closure solutions as a continuous challenge. We elevate our clients’ requests to the highest level by launching new closure usage experiences, which facilitate bottling and mark the product as exclusive in the market. All this represents added value for the end consumer as well.

Torrent Group’s Eco-Design Process

To achieve this, design and aesthetics are fundamental in the technological development of closures. Thanks to the necessary technical knowledge and the application of the latest technologies, such as additive manufacturing or finite element simulation, we can bring unique closure solutions to the market.

Torrent Group has implemented an Eco-Design platform in the design and development of its products, which includes, among other measures:

  • Lightening of parts and components
  • Use of single-materials
  • Use of bio-based materials
  • Use of recycled materials (recycled aluminium, recycled cardboard, etc.)
  • Improvement of processes that involve energy efficiency
  • Logistic optimisation
  • End of life

To achieve this goal, in addition to the Eco-Design process, the CO2-Tool was developed during 2022-2023, which allows us to calculate the CO2 footprint of our products and make comparisons in the development of new products/processes. This helps us to opt for the choice that has the least impact on the CO2 footprint and make sustainable decisions based on data.

With the help of this tool, we have managed to develop products/processes with reductions of up to 40% in their carbon footprint.

On the other hand, in terms of Eco-Design, we are making continuous improvements in the sustainable efficiency of the packaging we use to send our caps to customers. In this regard, we have optimised the grammage and size of the cardboard box packaging in which our closures are distributed, reduced the pallet film, in addition to practising their reuse.

Not to forget, we develop specific logistical circuits for the use of returnable packaging in the delivery of goods to customers, as circumstances allow. For 2024, the criteria established in our Eco-Design process and the use of the CO2-Tool will continue to be implemented, primarily promoting the search for and use of bio-based and/or recycled materials, with the premise of their use in food products.
